Gareth was the founding member of our group of ‘slackers’ on the physics undergraduate course at Bristol. Gareth may have done a good job of impersonating a slacker, but we all knew that he was secretly doing the work and spending many hours reading and studying hard. It was so nice to see him excel and go onto to get a PhD. Over a few years of studying with Gareth, he not only became a good friend, but also a mentor, and was always a source of wisdom and humour. I always had such admiration for him, as did many others. Will miss you mate. X
